Meet the Doctors

Not all dentists that do orthodontics are orthodontists…

  • All of the doctors at SmileXpress Orthodontics are specialists in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics.
  • An orthodontist is a dental specialist that has completed college, 4 years of dental school, and an additional 2 to 3 years residency program accredited by the American Dental Association (ADA) of advanced education in orthodontics.
  • After receiving the additional years of training and education, an orthodontist has learned the skills that are required to treat the misalignment of teeth and facial development with braces, retainers, headgear and other methods.

ONLY a dentist that has completed the additional years of training and education after dental school at a residency program accredited by the ADA is an orthodontist.

Dr. Robert L. Groesbeck

Dr. Robert Groesbeck was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. After graduating Cum Laude from Wayne State University in Detroit, he “loaded up the truck and moved to Beverly”, as in Los Angeles, California to attend Dental School at UCLA (literally – Dr. Groesbeck drove a pick-up truck loaded with all his stuff across the country…in July…without air conditioning in the truck). Dr. Groesbeck received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) in 1997, graduating at the top of his class, and his Certificate of Orthodontic Residency at UCLA in 1999.

After Dr. Groesbeck finished his Orthodontic Residency, he practiced in California before moving to Washington where he practiced with his wife for several years. When the family grew tired of the rain they searched for a sunny place to live and wound up in Arizona where Dr. Groesbeck practiced for several years.

Once the family decided living where the sun shines was indeed a priority, Dr. Groesbeck began searching for a practice in which he could deliver the highest quality of orthodontic care that was also in an area that offered the values in which he wanted to raise his family in. Dr. Evans offered him the opportunity to come to North Texas and SmileXpress Orthodontics. Every day since, Dr. Groesbeck has been grateful for the opportunity.

Dr. Groesbeck is married and has two sons. He enjoys football and hockey (he grew up in Michigan, remember?), music and cleaning up the kitchen after his wife makes a gourmet meal. Dr. Groesbeck is a real family man and loves spending time with his two sons and his wife.

Dr. Groesbeck previously taught at UCLA School of Dentistry and has regularly contributed to Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontist publications. He has been part of the Spear Education curriculum and Study Club, an educational forum that trains and coordinates the highest quality of dental care for patients with complex dental problems.

Dr. J. Taylor Evans

Dr. Evans has been “putting a smile on your face” and enriching the profession of orthodontics for 46 years. After growing up in West Texas, he came east to go to college at TCU. After graduating from dental school at Baylor, he turned right around and headed back to West Texas, where he practiced in Lubbock.

26 years ago, Dr. Evans decided he’d better “straighten out” North Texas, and moved back to Dallas. He eventually founded SmileXpress Orthodontics. He has spent nearly five decades contributing to the profession of orthodontics, through education, financial contributions, philanthropy – and the thousands of beautiful smiles he has crafted during his years in practice!

Dr. Evans was one of the earliest and most prolific providers of orthodontic care to children with craniofacial and developmental disorders in North Texas. Hundreds of children with severe functional and esthetic problems have had life changing improvements due to his experience, skill and care.

All of the doctors and staff at SmileXpress Orthodontics are committed to honoring Dr. Evans’ legacy of quality compassionate care for all patients, no matter how simple or complex their problems are.

Dr. Evans is married, has four children and 14 grandchildren. He loves golf and public relations. Dr. Evans and his wife, Carol, are currently putting the finishing touches on every grandparents’ dream – converting their house into an oasis and sanctuary for their grandchildren.
